NASPE is very excited that the first installment of PE Metrics has been released. It contains the assessments for Standard 1, elementary school level, grades K, 2, and 5. In addition, it contains a CD so that the teacher will always have a clean copy of the assessment at hand. AND, it contains a Dartfish DVD that shows the Level 3, competent, performance of each of the skills as well as short vignettes of common errors. Let us know what you think of the entire package, and we will use your feedback when we produce the Secondary Standard 1 book, Grade 8 and HS.

I am using PE Metrics as an example of standards-based assessment in my higher ed instructional assessment course. I am very disappointed in the number of spelling errors in the text accompanying the video clips for the skills. This is a terrible reflection on us, and I hope a more rigorous editing process is used with the secondary materials.

In response to the misspellings in the PE Metrics DVD: The DVD was made by Dartfish and some of the text that has questionable spelling is standard Dartfish text that appears on every screen with that information. For example, Dartfish uses the word "categorisation" on their Preview page. Actually that word is not even listed in the Webster's II dictionary, so I assume that it is not an English (American) word. If it were, we would probably spell it with a "z". Since it is not, I can accept the British version of the spelling. Next time, we will ask that they not use this word. Beyond that, you are right, there are a few typo's, not really misspellings. Actually I caught 8 errors in entering the text, like “alnding” for “landing”. That is very unfortunate and I take the responsibility for not catching all of these before making the DVD's. Next time we go to press, we will work closely with Dartfish to have their people enter the text without typo's, and we will proofread the material more closely. You are right, NASPE strives to produce professional documents for use by physical educators and these errors detract from the message.

I just purchased the PE metrics book and was disappainted that you only did K, 2, and 5. Also I did not receive the Dartfish DVD that shows the level 3 competent performance with the book. How can I get that DVD? I also tried to view the DVDs on Dartfish that you could access through NASPE website but could not find them when I did a search for PE metrics.
