PE Ups and Downs...
As reported in our monthly news column PE received a positive boost when included in a recent address by President Clinton. Simultaneously, we learned that the State of Georgia appears destined to eliminate any PE requirement from the state's public education system. Georgia is not the first state to eliminate required PE and should be another warning of the precarious condition of our profession nationwide.

Based on the collective wisdom of many teachers, here are some organizational ideas to think about for the fall:
Learning Names
Learning names in PE can be a daunting task, especially when physical educators are faced with over 500 names to learn. Here are some ideas that have worked for others.

Forming Groups
No need to have "boys vs. girls" or "picking teams" anymore in our PE classes. These ideas should provide developmentally appropriate ideas to get students into groups of your liking.

Doctors may soon prescribe exercise just as they prescribe medication, according to presenters at an upcoming conference on sports and health sponsored by the Royal College of General Practitioners in London.
