It is a wonderful time in our history to be a physical educator, particularly one who works with individuals with disabilities. The Honorable Ted Stevens' Physical Education for Progress Act (PEP) was passed and this will translate into better programs for ALL our children.

Increasing numbers of children are being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Barb Kirby, associated with the University of Delaware, has developed and maintains THE web resource on Asperger's Syndrome. The OASIS site has loads of very practical teaching information for the general physical educator.
Georgetown University's Center for "Child Health and Mental
Health Policy" has partnered with Family Voices, The Heller School
at Brandeis University, and the Institute for Child Health Policy
to address the special health care needs of children with disabilities.
The Consortium for Children and Youth with Disabilities and Special
Health Care Needs (link removed by webmaster)
is hoping to expand the knowledge base and contibute to public
policy.
