Small Things
Often we allow ourselves to be upset by small things that we should forget about at once. Perhaps someone we helped has proven ungrateful, someone we believed to be a friend has spoken ill of us, some regard we thought we deserved has been denied to us.
We feel such disappointment so strongly that we can no longer work, or even sleep.
We lose many irreplaceable hours brooding over grievances that in a year's time will be forgotten by us and everybody else. Let us devote our lives to worthwhile feelings and actions, to great thoughts, real affections, and enduring actions for others.
Life is too short to be little.

Physical Education:
Should It Be in the Core Curriculum?
by Carl Gabbard
Carl Gabbard is a professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University, and president of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
"One thing clearly evident in today's educational climate is that greater demands are being placed on principals to cram more into the school day. Faced with mandates to emphasize and expand the traditional core curricular subjects—language arts, math, and science—many principals find themselves hard-pressed to schedule meaningful instruction in music, art, technology, and physical education.
When speaking with principals about physical education, two viewpoints become evident. One perspective is that physical education is an essential part of the core curriculum and, as such, deserves equal priority in scheduling with other curricular areas. Unfortunately, many other administrators express the view that, while acknowledging that physical education is important to child development and school activities, they consider it to be an "enrichment" or "frill" unworthy of high priority—especially if a school's goal is improving poor academic performance.
