November 2003 Vol.5 No.9   Conference/Workshop Calendar
 Editorial

The Thanksgiving season can be a great time to remind students about the creation of the early communities in our country, and to celebrate the communities that are created in our schools. It might be a terrific time of the year to engage your students in a cooperative activity like the one found in the link below, and to spend a few minutes processing the activity afterward. During your processing time, be sure to identify for students some of the wonderful elements of their class…roles that people willingly take in order to help the group, listening skills that allow many ideas to be heard, and enthusiastic or encouraging statements that support the object of the game. If those kinds of elements are missing from your activity, this is a great time to talk about how their presence might help to create success, or at the least, better feelings between class members. Happy Thanksgiving!!

 Remember to be Thankful

As the holidays approach we sometimes get so caught up in the rush that we forget to say "Thank You" to those that improve our lives. This is a great time to make and send a thank you note to someone special in your life. Have your kids and students make one too!

Here's a great link to get you started!

"Thinking on Your Feet" w/ Jean Blaydes

This section within the Interdisciplinary page is updated each month with a new idea from Jean Blaydes' book Thinking on Your Feet. This month's idea is called "Preposition Obstacle Course" The whole idea behind this is for students to use the preposition words they learn in English to construct an obstacle course. Words like: Over, under, through...
