Convention Greetings & pelinks4u
Articles Review
Despite the unanticipated complications of
airline flight cancellations and hotel construction
delays, the 2008 AAHPERD National Convention
brought together several thousand allied health
professionals in Forth Worth. With dozens of
sessions offered simultaneously, the toughest
part of the week long event was choosing between
topics and presenters.
Below, with our articles
for this month, are my personal reflections
on some of the sessions I was able to attend.
Another favorite activity of most convention
goers was the chance to see the latest equipment,
books, services, educational opportunities,
and much more displayed by several hundred exhibitors.
A special thanks to those of you who took time
to visit the pelinks4u booth.
If you are a regular pelinks4u reader
you'll know that we changed our format this
year. One of our goals was to reduce the quantity
of the information we offered each month (too
overwhelming for many), and increase the quality
of the articles. This month we have some excellent
articles written especially for pelinks4u.
I do encourage you to take a look at them, and
if any stir responses, then please write to
either the author or me.
When I encourage people to contribute something
to pelinks4u I'm always surprised at
their reluctance. It's not laziness, but rather
a belief that they don't have much that would
interest others. On the contrary, I'm firmly
convinced that YOU and everyone else have so
much to contribute. If you teach, there's something
that you do that we can learn from. You don't
need to be a researcher or write a lengthy piece
full of professional references. Many of you
have years of experience, and an opinion that
deserves to be shared. It's through sharing
and debating ideas that we move forward, so
please - as we get close to the end of this
academic year - set a goal to share something
with your professional colleagues on pelinks4u
during the next year.
For this month, please spend some time looking
at what our volunteer editors have contributed.
Darren Dale suggests that "PE Cannot Make
Children Thin." See if you agree with his
reasoning. Other stories celebrate technological
advancements and their impact on PE over the
past few years; a new approach to teaching physical
education taking place in Luxembourg; the game
of Sepak Takraw from the Philippines; strategies
to improve cooperation in elementary school
physical education; ways for coaches to promote
health related fitness; and a description of
the use and value of adventure and experiential
education.
Finally, thanks to those of you who participated
in the election of the new
NASPE Board Members. Full details of the election
can be found on the NASPE
web site.
