BECOMING A COACH
This month pelinks4u is delighted
to share the first of 3 podcast presentations
by nationally renowned coaches as part of
the Coach Homeratha Lecture Series.
The lecture series, conducted at Central
Washington University (CWU), honored legendary Coach
Phil Homeratha of Haskell University in
Lawrence, Kansas for over 40 years of dedication
and service as a coach. During his tenure
at Haskell University, Coach Homeratha served
as athletic director, coached every sport
the school offered (except women’s volleyball),
and taught every class in health and physical
education.
Revered for putting the best interests of
students first, Coach Homeratha had a positive
impact on the lives he touched. He passed
away in 2011 following a personal battle with
cancer. The speakers in this lecture series
exemplify his commitment to helping young
people develop and achieve success.
Over the next three issues (May, June/July,
August/September) pelinks4u will
feature highlights of the presentations by
three coaches each month. In this issue Don
Showalter (Mid-Prairie High School, IA), Dave
Brunner (Broughton High School, VA), and Andy
Carrier (Ottawa University, KS) share their
thoughts on coaching and becoming a coach.
These presentations from the lecture series
are shared with pelinks4u readers
courtesy of Pete
Van Mullem, professor at CWU. You can
listen to the podcasts directly from this
page by clicking the PLAY button.
Additionally, check out the 7 newly featured
pelinks4u May articles for ideas
and advice on ways to improve physical education
teaching. Brief descriptions of the articles
and links can be found if you scroll down
on this page.
We hope spring is going well for you. Enjoy
the remainder of your school year!
